Damian was last night appointed as shadow education secretary.
Damian said: "Education has always been my first passion and one of the best things about being MP for East Hampshire is working with our excellent local schools, early years settings and colleges.
“I’m very pleased to be taking on this brief. The record of the last 14 years has been a big rise in children’s attainment compared to other countries. That was brought about by brilliant teachers, supported by our reforms. I sincerely hope the new government can build on this.
“Good governance needs good Opposition and our approach will be constructive and positive, while scrutinising the decisions the new government takes, and holding them to account for what they deliver.”
